12 Mega Pixels, Optical Zoom 4x, With Video Capture, Red Eye Reduction, Weight 124g
If your looking for a real compact camera, you may have met your perfect match. This camera is as slim as they come measuring just 10 cm by 6.2cm and with a thickness of only 1.8 cm it is ideal for slipping in your pocket. As with the rest of Sony's T series the camera is very stylish with a sleek brushed metal exterior, available in a range of colours. The new cyber shot has also had its sensor resolution increased from 10 mega pixels to 12.1 mega pixels which is accompanied by a non extending 4x Zoom lens.
Operation:
At the top of the camera we are provided with three buttons, one for operating the shutter (open/ close) ,another for adjusting the lens from wide to tele and another for operating the power of the camera. The main feature you will notice instantly on the new cyber shot is its large 3.5 inch touch screen which is used to operate picture settings, shooting options and the main menu system. The menu system is fairly easy to operate and shouldn't leave you feel lost or confused, the only real gripe with the touch screen is its extra quick response which sometimes leaves you clicking on the wrong options. Although as with all new interfaces once you have got used to it these problems should become trivial.
Performance:
The Sony Cyber Shot DSV T900 has a maximum shot resolution of 4000 x 3000 pixels which is fairly good for a compact camera, however images viewed at their maximum resolution were slightly grainy and not as sharp as desired. However for standard size images such as the type used in social media networks the cameras images held up pretty well especially images shot in medium to high light conditions.
As well as the standard picture mode we are also given a movie mode, allowing us to record 720p videos accompanied by stereo sound. The quality of the video output is of a fairly high standard but obviously would not compete with a dedicated camcorder.
Conclusion:
The Sony Cyber-shot DSC T900 is a great camera for the holiday snapper it offers stylish looks with a good easy to use interface. Images taken in good lighting conditions come back fine however images taken in low light without the flash leave a lot to be desired. Sony claim the battery life should give you 200 shots or a hundred minutes of video recording, however we found this came slightly under.
